Wendy’s Curl Ring – Step 2: Taking Apart The Original Rings

What’s on the bench – following the story of Wendy’s rings – step 2: taking apart the original rings!
I take apart Wendy’s more ‘traditional’ engagement & eternity ring in preparation for melting.
The diamonds & sapphire are taken out, cleaned and each stone is checked individually for damage. As these are old rings I could expect to find scratches, blemishes and chips, even on the diamonds!
The ring bands and settings are cut apart – different colours and carats of metal are kept separate. One of the settings is white gold so it will go into its own mix. The rest is all 18ct yellow gold and will be melted into an ingot.
This process can take a couple of hours!!
